Chris Hillman and Gram Parsons formed The Flying Burrito Brothers in the Fall of 1968, with Chris on lead vocals, guitar and mandolin and Gram on lead vocals and guitar. They would add Chris Ethridge on bass, Sneaky Pete Kleinow on steel guitar and former Byrd, Michael Clarke on drums.

They recorded exclusively for A&M Records, with the original line up on; The Guilded Palace of Sin. Burrito Deluxe would have the addition of Bernie Leadon, replacing Chris Ethridge. Following the departure of Gram Parsons; Rick Roberts would join the band and record The Flying Burrito Bros., Late Show Fillmore East- New York: November 7, 1970 and Last of the Red Hot Burritos.

Many compilations of the original recordings have been released by A&M Records. The songs written by Chris Hillman and Gram Parsons continued to be recorded by artists as diverse as: Dwight Yoakam, Marty Stuart, Emmylou Harris, Beck, Sheryl Crowe, Steve Earle, J.D. Crowe, Rose Maddox, Tony Rice and Teenage Fanclub.

The legacy of The Flying Burrito Brothers continues to influence many artists.
